1 - This short walk takes you from the centre of Vernet into the celebrated 'Belle Epoque' section of the town, well-known to Kipling when he stayed here in 1910, 1911 and 1914. Most stages of the walk are marked by explanatory notice boards which were erected in 2011 (a couple have since been removed). These notices are in French, but a translation in English of the text is on this website.
2 - As an extension to this walk, you can follow another short trail, also indicated by some 2011 notice boards (in French and English), into the 'Winter Garden'. This trail climbs to a rock where it is thought that Kipling gained inspiration for his short story 'Why snow falls at Vernet'. There is a fine view of Vernet from this rock.
